Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes was a French experimental progressive group that existed 1970-1980 with Portuguese-born singer Catherine Ribeiro and the band led by Patrice Moullet and a roster of other musicians that changed over the years. The music mixed folk, psychedelia and improvisation. Due to Moullet's creations, the music often featured special home-made instruments like the Cosmophone (a guitar/lyre hybrid), Percuphone (a mechanical rhythm machine), Orgolia (a large metallic violin) and other inventions. Ribeiro's low voice tone was a similar vocal style to Brigitte Fontaine and evoked Nico at times in that it was theatrical and declamatory.
