Biography

All members of Cherries On A Blacklist took a long journey and left their countries to accomplish the same goal, to grow as musicians and broaden their horizons. George, Andreas, and Malapert grew up in the island of Rhodes/Greece, whose main financial resource is tourism. On the other side of the Atlantic, Gonzo grew up in Monterrey, one of Mexico's most important industrial cities. In order to keep playing music and reach a higher level, they realized that they would soon have to leave. They all moved to Hamburg/Germany, a city renowned for its musical background.
The name of the band could be interpreted in many ways. The main meaning behind it is that "Cherries" represents the purity, innocence and beauty that has been blacklisted, giving presence to the confusion and misunderstanding happening all around us. The band "Cherries On A Blacklist" observes that and puts it down in words and music.
Cherries On A Blacklist was founded in May 2007 in Hamburg by Andreas, George, Malapert and Knop. After playing live all around Germany, they managed to record their first EP on their own, titled "14" (4 Track-EP) in the summer of 2008. Over a 1.000 copies have been given out to the audience for free since the EP release (2008/09). After they started to gain respect and get noticed by the local clubs, Sebastian Knop left the band for his own personal reasons in the beginning of 2009. A new bass player had to be found; Gonzo joined to complete the line-up.
The band then moved forward, spending many hours rehearsing and working on the pre-production of their debut album without compromising in their songwriting. By the end of 2009 they finally decided to work with the well-known producer Olman Viper (Emil Bulls, Caliban, Jupiter Jones, ZSK, Ohrenfeindt). The "LAKAFIGO" album was recorded live at NULL ZWEI Studios in Hamburg. The production started in December of 2009 and finished by the end of March 2010. Early 2011 the band decided to start their own label. This decision was taken after various attempts at finding a suitable partner/label that would help the band move forward within the music business.
In the summer of 2011 Cherries On A Blacklist entered a partnership with New Music Distribution in Hamburg, Germany and Grey Ham Records was founded in August 2011. The band released their first single called "Goat in the Yard", October 14th, 2011. Plans are already underway for the official release of their debut album "Lakafigo" in January 2012.
