An album I must be grateful for, for the kind of music it allowed me to later discover, whether prog or otherwise. Incredible effort. When you come back to it after a long time away, you're reminded of how excellent each track sounds together.

I think this album is very good on the "ends". First 4 and last 4 tracks absolutely rule. The middle starts sounding too samey after a while, but The Suffering has a great hook and Wake Up is a nice change of pace. Also, the Neverender version of The Final Cut is the most surprising thing they did, I almost wish they included it on a reissue as a bonus

That's the version I'm referring to. I didn't see it live, it was on YouTube, but it was removed. I'm kind of upset about it

This album shows such a ridiculously big improvement from the previous... Almost every song was the best song they've ever done til that point

This whole album is the thesis of what makes Coheed and Cambria so great. The hard rock and electronic elements that would come later started their roots here, and the metal / emo combo is perfected as well. Still not as good as Second Stage, but a close second.

You'll all appreciate the day that you realize that minus the two intro songs, Welcome Home is the least awesome track on here.

My first CoCa album. I hated it at first. I Just bought it because of Welcome Home... Like the 80% that also bought it. After the first 3 song I was like "omg what a piece of shit" and that was it. Two years after, I listened it again because........ That's one hell of a cover lol. And then... the rest is history. One of my favorites of all times.

Who calls this album a grower? It's immediately awesome all around. Easily my favorite from them, and a legendary album

Oh I disagree Rowan, I think this is most certainly their best release - total masterpiece, classic after classic track culminating in the best four songs they've ever done - just incredible. My first, and still my favourite, Coheed album.

It's rare to have every song on an album be that good. I still havn't got enough of it. That's quality!

Their best album by a landslide, in my opinion. Apollo I : The Writing Writer is their best song. In Keeping Secrets and No World For Tomorrow are both very good, but I'm not that crazy about their first or their latest ones. Good Apollo: Volume 1 = Masterpiece. No debate needed. Peace

Dude, the last four songs from this album continually blow me the fuck away... a year after listening to them for the first time. Proggressive metal CHAMPIONS!

Now this is a proper album! One of the rare albums that almost fills up an entire CD but doesn't overstay its welcome, and one of the very best prog rock albums of the last decade.

i honestly find this to be one of their most boring albums... but i think it's their best work musically. it's their most progressive album by far.

when i listen to coheeds discography this album is where i lose interest. seems to drag in parts (the lying lies..., mother may i, once upon your dead body, etc.) and yet it has some of my favorite moments in their history, like all of the willing wells, wake up, and welcome home. all of the W songs :S
