Biography

There are two artists with the name Conil: 1) a folk-blues artist from London; 2) an electronic duo from the Netherlands.

1. Folk-blues artist from London who worked with all-time great Danny Thompson (Nick Drake) and GRAMMY-winner Tchad Blake (Tom Waits) on the Strange Part of the Country album.

"You don't sound like anyone else" said Danny Thompson - legendary bass player for greats Nick Drake and John Martyn - about folk-blues artist Conil from England.

"Strange Part of the Country is an awesome album!" stated GRAMMY-winner Tchad Blake - the audio engineer who worked with Tom Waits on Bone Machine as well as recent albums by Robert Plant and the Black Keys - "I still listen to it, years after working on it", he added.

Many people seem to agree with this. The album never conformed to any current trends and has remained timeless.

Now people are discovering this album and it is becoming an all-time favourite.

Fleetwood Mac legend Peter Green liked Conil's music so much he wanted to record with with him after hearing "Round Midnight" - Conil's homage to the jazz greats.

When the album was released in the UK, it received some great press - "Four stars - Q Recommends" from Q magazine (then Britain's biggest selling music monthly); "One of the most original artists out there", wrote Blues Matters in a glowing review, which made him the cover star the next month.

Searching for a second album, he left England after Strange Part of the Country came out and has spent the last ten years living all over the United States and Europe.

It was in New Orleans, and then a couple of years later in Berlin, that he found his way.

2. Dutch electronic duo, Conil is a collaboration between Geert Huinink, a well-known Dutch music producer and classical composer and Javier Rodriguez.

Geert Huinink and Javier Rodriguez returned to the Songbird label by releasing the extended mix of ‘Malibu Beach’. The original was the first track on In Search Of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles by Tiësto back in 2006.
