Flawless first half, some of the finest psychedelic rock i've ever heard. For me, the peaks of the album (tracks 1 to 5). are better than Disraeli Gears. Falls from "Spoonful" onwards as to how dragged it gets (at least the drumming is still great, but the blues covers are really inauthentic). Stereo is horrible, go for the mono. These 3 are really unique sounding, a great match and a great power trio.

It's so annoying that I Feel Free is the first track on any CD or digital version of the album but the original LP does not contain it since it was a single.

Incredible debut from one of the best rock bands of all time. They would, IMO, get better with each subsequent release, but there's no denying that they started off on a high note with this LP.

For any of you complaining about the panning, the album was recorded on a 4-track and engineers at the time did not have the magic of reduction mixing to help them, for that would be a later invention. Yeah, it's annoying, but the music is great.

I agree with Party though the songs on here are great the production are annoying as hell. The drums really seem to the rhythm guitar and drums really seem to lose their power with the crappy sepperation.

Jay: Actually, what annoys me is that it's not great separation, most of the time (*cough*IFeelFreeCat'sSquirrel*cough*) it's "bundle every instrument on the right and then toss the tambourine/harmonica/whatever on the left". It just sounds crappy on headphones like that.

Actually, yeah, I think I'd prefer a mono version of this, the panning's just too annoying. And this is coming from a guy who thinks people who say "You haven't heard Sgt. Pepper until you heard it in mono" should shut up...

Production's a bit annoying what with the excessive panning, but still a great debut.

I think when listening to this album you've got to understand what other bands where doing at the time. 1966 plus it was recorded very quickly, I think it was one of the first British albums made in stereo.
