Crush 40, previously known as Sons of Angels, was originally formed as a project band to record music for Sega's arcade racing game NASCAR Rubbin' Racing, or EA Sports NASCAR Arcade in the west. The core of the group is hard rock guitarist Jun Senoue and melodic rock vocal legend Johnny Gioeli.

As of late, the band comprises of the following members:
* Vocals: Johnny Gioeli
* Guitars: Jun Senoue
* Bass: Takeshi Taneda
* Drums: Act.

They have written and performed many songs for various Sonic the Hedgehog games starting with "Sonic Adventure", right up to 2009's "Sonic and the Black Knight." In 2003, they released a self-titled album containing tracks from the NASCAR and Sonic games.

In November 2009, Crush 40 released The Best of Crush 40: Super Sonic Songs, which is a compilation of all of Crush 40 fan's favorites as well as three new songs; Un-gravitify, Is It You and Fire Woman.

The band made 2 subsequent releases unrelated to the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise, with 2012's EP "Rise Again" and 2015's album "2 Nights 2 Remember".

In 2019 they made their return to the franchise with "Green Light Ride", the opening theme for Team Sonic Racing, and shortly after released a new compilation album entitled "Driving Through Forever -The Ultimate Crush 40 Collection-", featuring a new bonus track, "Call Me Crazy".

Most recently, the band participated in Sonic's 30th anniversary celebrations, being part of the 30th Anniversary Symphony in 2021 and releasing a new acoustic version of their iconic "Live & Learn" in 2022.
