Biography
The story begins somewhere in 2002. On a dark and depressing evening Tom Swinnen got the idea to portray this dark atmosphere in the shape of melancholic tunes. The one-mans-band “Cuchulainn” was born. The name is derived from the Irish legend of Cu Chulainn. With guitar and synthesizer he went to work. The first results came around 2003 under the name of “Visions of Melancholy”, a rather amateuristic demo. The reviews showed that there was some potential in this music and that it was a just a matter of patience.
And boy, did they have to be patient…
The next demo, originally to be called “Mortifera”, was scheduled for the beginning of 2004. These plans were soon annihilated due to lack of the original deep melancholic spirit for this music.
Soon it became clear that the melancholic muse was not going to return. To save Cuchulainn from silent death, they called upon an other source. The genre would remain the same, dark ambient, but the little layer of pitch-black dust would be blown off. The (electric) guitar was put aside and the synthesizer took on the most important role.
“Fauna & Flora” was a fact. This 28-minute demo was developed for over 2 years and has got elements ranging from a snifter of classical music to a knifepoint of “Boards of Canada”.
Cuchulainn is now working towards a worthy fullCD, which will carry the name "Meeting new People". This name was chosen for a reason, for the release will venture more into the street of IDM/Ambient, and almost completely move way from the dark aspect. Expected release: end of 2008.
