Met a random stranger at a bar in Newtown several months ago who, as it turned out, also had an affinity for shoegaze music and the like. At some point during our geek out session he recommended checking out this (and a few other local gaze) bands. I made a note of it in my phone but have only just come across it again this evening. Listened to the ST and holy fuck - it's a delight from beginning to end. Kicking myself that I sat on it for this long. As for it sounding derivative... well, it can be very difficult for new shoegaze bands to avoid that (hell, even Slowdive's latest release got flack for that despite any 'derivative' quality being symptomatic of the fact that they contributed to, if not pioneered, the genre's scaffolding in a big way). But Deafcult's music doesn't sound generic, imo. It sounds fresh and energetic, with lots of momentum - and that's exciting to hear in a shoegaze band minted in the 21st century.

S/T is a ridiculously good album. I mean, how the fuck can every song on an album be a gem?
