Biography

What started out as a group of teenagers making rhymes over handmade beats at the lunch table in 2005, gave birth to one of the most highly anticipated electro-rock-rap groups more familiarly known as Detroit CYDI (Detroit, Can You Dig It?!). It derived itself from a super-group of friends and schoolmates known as The Illiance that was created over a decade ago. Detroit CYDI is a trio formed of the lyricists Sean Uppercut and Rufio Jones with emcee/producer Doctor Illingsworth.

The trio spent three plus years developing a skill set and dynamic as a group before combining their talents with Swedish producer Erik L. This collaboration led to the masterpiece that later became The Rhyming Dictionary (TRD). The combined talents of Erik L and Doctor Illingsworth produced a diversity of beats featuring a blend of electronic hip-hop interlaced with the smooth and dynamic version of The Detroit Sound. This gave Detroit CYDI the ability to display their microphone skills over the set of unparalleled productions.

After many laughs and even more deliberation, the gift of a used copy of “The New American Comprehensive Rhyming Dictionary" inspired the title of their first mastered album. Today, Detroit CYDI can be found performing and impressing audiences at a variety of venues throughout Metro Detroit and was most recently featured on Van’s Warped Tour. The trio is working on new music and still impresses those just hearing "The Rhyming Dictionary" for the first time. They eagerly anticipate what the future holds. It’s a great time to be in Detroit, Can You Dig It?!
