“Because” is a fifth track of the debut Danger Mouse & Black Thought collaborative album “Cheat Codes”. It was released as a second single on June 8, 2022. A video clip shot in a virtual reality was premiered on July 7, 2022 on YouTube. The video centers around an NYC backdrop with Black Thought projected larger than life on the buildings that resemble an empty Times Square. The song features soul singer Dylan Cartlidge on the chorus with Joey Bada$$ and Russ each delivering their own verse. In the song Tariq and his collaborators are drawing a cruel picture of modern America happening in its darkest corners, from poverty and criminal to abusive childhood and spinning downwards the spiral in order to survive.
