the man who finished the game of the music industry, did everything an artist could have done, and finished it all with mastery

I think it's named Blackstar after an actual black star; the theoretical end point of a star's life when it has gone through all its cycles and ends up a dark mass of electron-degenerate matter. A black star still exists, it's still there - it's just invisible to the naked eye, and no longer emits heat or light. Kinda like David Bowie now.

This is definitely my favorite album from him. It’s just completely perfect and the story behind it makes it so much more important

first album by him that i listened in full, and its so unique... you can really feel that hes aware that he is dying while listening to the album even in the instrumentals, its so good and sad

What would this album have sounded like if there was no music at all (if there was just silence), if there were no such thing as earth, if the universe didn’t exist and there was nothing ... What would it have been? Hmm I wonder

this carries a weight that's unmeasurable. it's consistent, it's compact– it's touching. bowie managed to keep his expertise, exquisite quality and soulfulness on the same level. it's just mesmerizing to me how someone built a swansong as memorable, quantifiable, and smooth as this one. for me, blackstar is the concrete proof of the immenseness that he had as an artist; not because it's poignant, yet, because it is defiant. it's final, it's confined. it's bowie, after all.

His death was so devastating to me at the time, Bowie is probably my favourite artist. I was so in love and excited with Blackstar, but then he just died 2 days after releasing and I try listening again but I just can't, even though it's an amazing record, it is too sad for me just to think about this album. Maybe one day I will be able to get over this, but for now, I still don't...

I love the title track and Lazarus but can't really get into the rest of the album. I feel this would be one of my favourites by Bowie if the rest of the album was on the same level as those two singles because they are true masterpieces.

I'm sure in 50 or more years we will still look at this album as one Bowie's best albums, if not the best overall.

I mean most consider this one of his best works, but some say it's just because it's the latest, once the dust has settled, we'll all see that this will age gracefully.

To Pimp a Butterfly was an influence on David Bowie's 2016 album Blackstar. As its producer Tony Visconti recalled, he and Bowie were "listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar ... we loved the fact Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn't do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that's exactly what we wanted to do."

I still haven't found an album better than this one. Thank god I'm existing at the same time in the universe as this godly work.

One of my favorite albums of all time, and one of the most soulful musical statements ever made.

I own this album and I still haven't listened to it. I know it's a fantastic album but I just can't bring myself to listen to it since it was his last album of original work. I feel like if I listen to it... then that's it, no more brand new Bowie music ever (despite the fact that clearly is the case).

Took the words right out of my mouth. I'm kind of afraid to play this record still. I keep listening to his older works until I feel totally ready to sit down and digest his last record.

Indeed, two years after and it's still a wonderful and moving album. I think I'll never ever get tired of listening to the song "Blackstar", it amazes me every time I listen to it.

It still sounds as perfect and honest than when it was released, it's a wonderful album.
