Biography

From the beginning, this band’s sound was based on improvisation and experiments and that is one of their best qualities. In a way, their sound is a fusion of different genres and forms of music - from live sounds played on conventional instruments to electronic sounds and beats.
The beginning of this musical adventure known as DEVICE EXPERIENCE can be traced back to 1996 when the first line up was formed in Belgrade, Serbia. Ivan-Milan Matic (bass) started intensively to jam with Bojan Nikolic (guitar) and Srdjan Mijalkovic (drums / saxophone). Their early sound was influenced by musicians and bands like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Billy Cobham, jazz music, psychedelic rock, metal, dub, ethnic, etc… plus some electronic stuff, like, ambient, trip-hop, drum'n'bass, break beat… They used to switch instruments and experiment with the sound.
After a few years Marko Rakocevic (guitar) joined the band and their sound became even more experimental.
In 2002. Peter O’Hearn became their vocalist and later on got more involved in a creation of their darker, heavier sound with his voice and a few electronic devices (sample machine and synth). Back then the band was named DEVICE KONFLIKT (due to the common creative fights between the band members).
When in 2006. Pete moved back to Canada, band continued to jam and to create instrumental music, and after a few months, at the beginning of 2007. a singer/keyboardist Eva Zlatkovic started to rehearse and record with them. Everyone was amazed by her angelic voice and new energy was found. Because their sound changed, band members decided to change their name to DEVICE EXPERIENCE.
Vladimir Budimirovic (who also plays guitar in Mašta Bašta) joined them on percussion and his unique guitar playing also influenced their sound a lot.
Newest member became Stefan Sladic (also known as DJ Staffan Sladik) with his laptop and MIDI keyboards, adding his crazy beats to their sound, and together with Ivan-Milan, he worked on a production, beats, atmospheric sounds and other computer generated stuff.
This band performed in Belgrade in lots of different clubs, and this practice continues to this day.
Here you can here some of their recordings in the highest quality mp3 form on their indie promotional EP "Forest".
