An astonishing LP released unto the wrong audience, what else is there to be said? Still in my all-time top 5 LPs. I've played it for my friends who love progressive music and rich production and they all loved it. Admittedly, if I'd have been part of the northern soul subculture who followed the band circa 1980, or a casual American charts fan expecting another Come On Eileen I would have been baffled by the release of this album. To put it bluntly, the name 'Dexys' didn't demand enough respect to expect a sufficient platform onto which such an ambitiously esoteric album could be released or have as much artistic freedom as they had been afforded by the label.
