This might not be the truest blackest album out there but as a huge oldshool In Flames enjoyer I'm totally buying this

if you run out of good 'old In Flames' albums to listen to, this is the next closest thing. not as good as their early stuff, but better than most melodeath

I quite like this one, even if it doesn't touch the lofty heights of the previous two records and is in a drastically different style.

How to get into this album? Sounded so underwhelming compared to the other dissection releases.

just give it time, or maybe it's just not for you. I know plenty of people who happily disregard it and prefer the previous albums which is completely understandable.

Yes that’s it. After about 6 listens it sounds good although I still don’t enjoy it as much as the previous 2. It’s definitely my favorite for gaming tho.

Eleven-The-End
This album is the best Dissection album in terms of lyrics, I love how it is different style than the somberlain and Storm of the Light's bane, it also has some of the best vocals.. I just prefer Storm of the Light's Bane because it has more acoustic parts and it reminds me of Opeth too, but Reinkaos has the best lyrics by far, I really relate to this a lot. Beyond the lights of the stars A place of eternal freedom Eleven shall bring the End!!!!

Without wanting to offend you.... but if you ignore the lyrics this album is rather average melo-death metal. Unfortunately it didn't inspire me and I still prefer every Dissection worship band that is oriented towards Somberlain and SOTLB.

And it sounds like black metal, like listen to Storm of the Light's Bane that has the fast tremolo picking in a lot of the songs too, so like it is black metal, I guess some songs just have riffs, but like so does Emperor, Immortal (Solarfall has like thrash metal riffs) but the bottom line is, it's still black metal.

like Sarcofago, and early Sodom, Kreator, or Sepultura is also first wave of black metal, and so what, black metal can sound in many different ways, all these, and also Exorcist Nightmare Theatre are first wave of black metal, but all sound different to each other.

One of the greatest BM albums ever. Never understood the derision this album sometimes gets.

Yeah. I love this album bro, I think it's better than The Sombrelain, but The Storm At the Light's Bane is better. :)

yeah all from Dissection is AWESOME. Agreed, but if I had to choose the best one it would be Storm at Light's Bane :) Just perfection.

I am deaf and fool. Never understood the hype - maybe one day it will just click, other than that my Dissection experience are the first two LPs :)

Ι have given this album more than 50 spins, still can't get all this hype about it. It's not my type, it sounds boring. Their earlier/black metal stuff is wayy better.

Melodeath is not generally my favorite style when it comes to Metal/Death Metal, but if more of it were like this album, I would be a lot bigger fan. A great album that lives up to Dissection's lofty reputation in every way. I wouldn't quite put it on the same level as The Somberlain (IMO the best from the band), but it's still a fantastic record.

There's a lot of melodeath that is just as tough as this particular album. You just have to go for the bands that actually honor the death metal part, and don't get too sugary with their melodies. At the Gates, Hypocrisy, and the first 4 or so Opeth albums all fit the bill.

Not only their weakest album, but one of the worst melodic death metal albums I've ever heard.
