Biography

American soul backup singer Doris Duke (born Doris Curry in 1945) recorded under her then married name of Doris Willingham, her first solo single, "Running Away from Loneliness" in 1966 for the Hy-Monty imprint. Prior to this she had been in The Caravans, and also the gospel group, Raymond Rasberry Singers. Doris had also done singing work on some indie Gamble + Huff productions. Another 6 songs were done with Richard Tee for the Krassner Music organization under this name in 1967. 2 of the Doris Willingham titles were released on Jay Boy label as a 7" 45 rpm single You Can't Do That b/w Lost Again. The other 4 tracks never came out at the time, but have since surfaced on CD reissue compilations released through the U.K's excellent historical label Ace.
