Unbelievable how an album can be this fucking good. Temptation's Wings and Bury Me In Smoke are two of the best stoner metal tracks ever

Can't believe this isn't the top album for these guys. Like I said in a previous comment, most of the other stuff they've put out has been decent/pretty good, but this is a landmark Metal/Stoner Metal record with some of the best riffs you'll hear anywhere and not a single dud in its 13 tracks. I've been listening to this one for over 20 years now and I've never gotten tired of it.

The best songs are Temptation's Wings, Pillars Of Eternity, Rehab, Hail The Leaf, and Bury Me In Smoke.

If someone mentions riffs and you don't bring up this album, you're doing it wrong.

Far and away their best album. As others have said, the later stuff is mostly pretty good, which is no surprise given the bandmembers' pedigrees, but nothing that came after touches this one.

NOLA was a killer effort from a Supergroup, and had they only released this, it would have been perfect. While I do like their music after this, nothing compares, and is just a backslide with each release, as the riffs just become more muddled chords, and Phil's voice sounds more and more blown out and weak. Later efforts are enjoyable, but this one album was their Masterpiece.

Bought this on cassette the week it came out and immediately liked "Temptation's Wings," "Stone The Crow" and "Swan Song." I remember they played a show in N.O. in Jan. '96 (forgot where, possibly Tip's or Jimmy's). Still wish I had gone.

Great record!!! Down is one of the strongest southern rock/metal bands out there still active... In my heart it took the place of Velvet Revolver since VR is disbanded... You can really hear strong Black Sabbath/Led Zeppelin inspirations in Down music but they make it sound their own and a lot heavier as well and that's great.
