This album aged well. When it was released, I could not really understand how a piece of art this is. Now I do.

Octavarium is a masterpiece of an album and the title song is one of the greatest songs of all time. If you know anything about music it is truly beautiful and amazing. Octavarium is one of my favorite songs of all time and it is a beast to listen to. 10/10 album would recommend to anyone not only who likes prog, but even any metal viewers. Its a prog must-listen like most of Dream Theater's albums.

Train of Thought was the first album I ever heard from Dream Theater when I was younger. Octavarium was the first Dream Theater album I got to buy the day it came out. Such a great feeling hearing this album for the first time and all the anticipation I had for it. I also remember how active the Dream Theater forums were that day trying to dissect the album.

Great album. A lot of people knock this and "Systematic Chaos", but those are actually two of my favorite Dream Theater albums.

Octavarium is from 2005, Origin of Symmetry went out in 2001 and Absolution in 2003, so... yes, this album is definitely influenced by Muse

First DT album I really didn't like at all. I don't get the hype around this one. Waaaay to much slow stuff going on and not enough proggy shredding. The kick drum sounds like hitting a couch pillow. I think Panic Attack is the only song I like on the album. Such a disappointing follow-up to Train of Thought at the time it was released. I still feel that way 9 years later.

Interesting how people slammed this album when it came out, but comparing to what it came after, this is a masterpiece. Great album.

"Pausing Octavarium is kind of like if you tried to “pause” a game of chess. It’s possible, but fragmenting the experience it completely destroys the experience achieved by the whole" [2]. This applyes to both Octavariums... The tune, and the whole album.

I always feel guilty when I listen to this album. It's like over-indulging in something really, really good.
