Biography

Born in a quiet London suburb, Drifta AKA Chris Demello had an early exposure to music by way of old hip hop, reggae, jazz, soul and funk records. After conquering piano and drums, his love of music led him behind the turntables. By the age of 16 he was playing ragga and jump up at his first house party, but he soon discovered a love for the more soulful sounds of drum & bass around 2004.

After years of spending endless amounts of money on slowly building a record collection, Chris was just itching to share it with the nation. He managed to secure slots on many of the top internet radio stations, including Aftershock Radio, Futuredrumz, Shedbass and many more. Soon this became stale and Chris hungered for a more personal form of expression.

He always used music to escape from everyday mundane life, and then turned this outlet into production when introduced to programs such as Fruity Loops, Reason, Cubase, and finally Logic, his weapon of choice.

Drifta is now one of the scene's most prolific producers; his studio churns out an extremely wide array of audio prowess: from hip hop and electro, to bassline and trance; all delivered with proficiency and finesse. His fresh sound, comprised of rich trancy textures, dirty bass, pounding drums, and hauntingly beautiful vocals, is a direct result of his open-minded approach to all styles of music. He enjoys listening to everything from punk to rock to trance, but his true passion lies in drum & bass.

With many styles come many collaborators including Static & Top Notch (Spherical Sounds), Drumlinez, The Assembly Worker, and of course the unstoppable collaboration with Mikey C under the alias of Chaos Theory.

However, his sound remains distinctively his own and his D&B work can be recognised in an instant, as well as being heard in almost every big drum & bass club in the world, with support from DJs including Huw Stephens, Bobby Friction, Crissy Criss, Nerm & D-Code, Dice from Breakology, The Brookes Brothers, Haze and many more
