Biography

from Stockholm, (Sweden). After some mediocre tryouts with different singers, Alexander Wennerqvist finally found his soulmate at the students' christmas farce 2001 in their high school, Kärrtorp Gymnasium. Pontus Johansson played his guitar and sang some covers on stage. Girls were fainting everywhere. Alex took heart to ask Pontus for a collaboration. Meanwhile Alex's acquintance Maja was also asked to provide vocals. So the three together founded Empty Words spring 2002. Nothing really happened that year, except for two live appearances in school.

Early 2003, the band changed their name to Fantazja and did a successful gig at the local Walpurgis event for hundreds of people. More and more songs were taking shape and they agreed to release a demo. Demo 1, including 'Kathy', 'How I Feel' and 'Jealousy', which all reached #1 at the http://www.electrogarden.com chart.

Fall 2003, Alex spent 6 months in a music production school, hoping to improve his programming and songwriting skills. However, he felt that the tracks were not that great and lost inspiration.

Alex started his military service January 2004, which made it almost impossible for Fantazja to fully prepare for the Quest for Fame contest, which was hosted by the label Memento Materia in March of that year. With no luck, a band called Red Cell won. Maja had already left the band due to musical differences when Pontus and Alex slowed things down.

'Sing this Song' revived Fantazja, spring 2005. Written and produced together with Markus Bustad, the vocalist of Z-Prochek.

In 2006, one of Alex's regular customers, Christer Eriksson, turned out to be a producer. He helped them by co-producing two songs for the second demo release, Demo 2, which ended up at the label A Different Drum and got the band signed.

Fantazja is now working on their forthcoming debut album, scheduled to be released in 2007. If you can't wait til then, they will also release 'Sing This Song', as a single before the end of this year.
