Since finishing his studies with Valery Gradov, Saschko Gawriloff and Herman Krebbers in 1983, Frank Peter Zimmermann has performed with all the major orchestras in the world, collaborating on these occasions with the world's most renowned conductors. His numerous engagements take him to all major concert venues and international music festivals in Europe, the United States, Japan, South America and Australia.

Frank Peter Zimmermann is also an avid chamber musician and recitalist. His interpretations of a wide range of repertoire have been received with great critical acclaim from press and public alike. His regular recital and chamber music partners are pianists Enrico Pace and Christian Zacharias and cellist Heinrich Schiff. In 2007 he performed an all-Beethoven programme with pianist Emanuel Ax. Pianist Piotr Anderszewski will be his partner during a short recital tour in April 2009. During the 2007/08/09 seasons he presents the newly formed string trio with viola player Antoine Tamestit and cellist Christian Poltéra to audiences in various cities throughout Europe.

Frank Peter Zimmermann was awarded the Premio del Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Siena 1990.
