Biography

Fresh Hats Tight Beats began as a collaboration between long-time friends and musical brethren Zach Matthews (a.k.a. z.matt.33) and Phil Buck in Memphis, Tn. While living together in Nashville, they continued to binge out on beats and came up with their defining sound through use of beat machines, live instruments, samples and their musical brothers and sisters of the Winslow Family. In July of 2009, they recorded the "Summer Session EP" to rave reviews and instant internet success.

Summer Sessions evolved out of an on-going recording session commemorating the move of Tim Santos and Natalie Hogan to Denver, CO in the Summer of 2009. While the Winslow Family members were sad to see their long-time friends leave Tennessee behind, they decided to take advantage of the final days they had to make music together. Over a short period of 2 weeks, they composed and recorded 8 tracks that would become a catalyst for the creation of a new musical project.

Through internet buzz, the "band" was booked for their first show at Newby's in Memphis before they ever even conceptualized taking the music live. With their first gig booked, Zach and Phil began experimenting with live production methods and began their foray into live electronic music. They continued to play a handful shows in and around Memphis and Nashville, TN for nearly six months sharing the stage with up and coming electronic acts and highlighting guest performances from local MC's and instrumentalists. A live visual arts display was added to the mix by enlisting the talents of Ms. Leigh Bernstein Buck, a.k.a. DiagonaLeigh, as a projectionist.

In the Fall of 2009, Phil and Leigh moved to Denver, CO. Starting in January of 2010, the live sets were performed by z.matt.33 and his new partner and fellow-Winslow Family member, Matt Nigro (a.k.a. MattntheHat.)

In October 2011 Matt Nigro joined Tim and Phil in Denver, CO. A new album has started production due for release in January 2012. Fresh Hats Tight Beats has ceased performing live (for now) and their musical efforts have been focused in the studio setting.
