GNR or "Grupo Novo Rock" is a portuguese rock band formed in Porto (Oporto) in the beginning of 1980 by Vítor Rua that abandoned the band in 1982 in search of other sonorities, forming the duo Telectu, along with Jorge Lima Barreto.

In 1982 the band released their first LP, "Independança", composed and produced by Vítor Rua. This work, considered by many as the best new wave/art-rock album ever made in Portugal, had a 26 minutes track of improvisation rock called "Avarias". This was an unique achievement for the music industry of that time due to the commercial risk of this action.

Nowadays GNR is formed by Toli César Machado (drums), Jorge Romão (bass) and Rui Reininho (vocals), though the band has known several formations in the past, including his creator Vítor Rua, Alexandre Soares or Nuno Rebelo.

Some of GNR biggest hits are "Portugal na CEE", "Espelho meu", "Dupond & Dupont", "Bar da Morgue", "Agente Único", "Dunas" or "Efectivamente".
