Great, like some other bands - we will consider the formation of a new subgenre, or wave, such black and death metal, slightly avant-garde, slightly dissonant, with grotesque penetrating into the basis of the traditional sound

Knowing nothing about this band but one song before seeing them live last night. The show was great, they gained at least one new fan.

I was also there, superb show they put on, seeing them again when they tour with Wolves in The Throne Room (don't like them but it worth it to see Gaerea)

The "new" album is good, I mean, it is technically good and well constructed, somewhat deep and atmospheric but... I feel it has two main issues: First, it's kinda more of the same. Second, it's, again, another work of them that sound too pretentious and pedantic. They try at every song, every of their pics to show a "dark and deep" Black Metal but after some time hearing them the formula just becomes too evident and even boring. As I said, it's not a bad album, but it's nothing new from this band and it keeps their pretentious image and sound as usual, they kinda need to grow up in my opinion.

I agree their lyrics are a little pretentious at times but they have a great sound so I don't mind

new album is surprisingly great, one of the year's best in BM.. so many impactful riffs and sections, and the tone and the energy to go with it is very sincere.

I hear everybody say this. Yet at the show in Haarlem the female (stand-in?) guitarist had absolutely no clue what she was doing. Out of tune, out of rhythm. It didn’t help either that the intro tracks kept cutting out every other second and that the microphone didn’t work half of the time.

That was absolutely not the case in São Paulo, in late November, 2022. They did an amazing gig. Very professional, everything on spot, a lot of energy and truly emotional. Best band ever seen live for me.

hmh for the longest time i couldnt stomach limbo (or gaerea as a whole) but revisiting them now makes me wonder why was that. maybe i just gradually got more into this sound through listening to others who imo share alot of the same characteristics (mgla, groza, uada). well atleast im here, its all that matters

Unsettling Whispers got pulled off Spotify and iTunes. Damn. Guess I'm turning to YouTube for the time being.

I'm not sure. Maybe issues with the label? It's back now, though! No worries.

limbo is really (unexpectedly) good, so much better than their previous album which was so bland..this new one is less sludgy and more post-, occasionally reminding of regarde les hommes tomber's new album...but i do wish i didnt find them quite cringey and poser-ish in their band pics (what's with the gestures with hands and masked heads?) and their FB activity (too much promotion of their stuff practically everyday)...doesn't quite match with the musical feel and lyrical content.

yeah practically speaking it must be really laborious to play a show with balaclavas, especially considering the fact they are rather unlikely to remain anonymous in a long run with all the promotions. but the band pics imo are just ok as a whole, at least much better than tons of tasteless kitsch album covers and/or promo pictures of similar bands

But what does the Black Metal plus other genres have to do with this cringy image of the band? lol I mean, I know a lot of Black Metal bands and a lot of them is not that cringy, they just don't care about their self-image.

Did they make changes in the lineup since? Guitarist had absolutely no clue what she was doing.

I'm reading a lot of positive reviews for Unsettling Whispers, but I'm not feeling it at all, even though this should be completely in my wheelhouse. I don't know, the combination of black metal and some sludge and hardcore elements is not gritty and memorable enough to me. There is definitely a lot of potential.

check out regarde les hommes tomber who released their third album this year. the only case so far where BM with sludge has worked wonders on me. super memorable (to me) among other things.
