Is it just me or have the guys also started to turn to 80s harmonies and hooks on the latest releases?

I thought it would be more "Into the Purgatory" based on Flames of Rage, which would have been fine by me because I love that album. It's pretty different though. A lot of variety on this album. I think one of the standouts are the great riffs. I don't really like Howling Darkness as the intro song. I tend to start with the new version of Everlasting now. Seems like I prefer lighter beginnings :). Overall very good album as expected.

Can anyone recommend me albums (from any artists) that are similar to Galneryus's first 3 albums? I'm particularly fond of Flag of Punishment and have struggled to find anything with a similar energy.

Yama-B era > Sho era. Although both are great, the first five Galneryus albums are some of the finest music the power/progressive metal genre has spawned.

Don't like power metal that much but 'hunting for your dream' is a proper banger! Gonna check out more of their stuff because of it!

Anyone living in Europe can tell me where best to buy their CDs? I've been waiting to buy them on a trip to Japan, but it's unlikely I'll visit soon.

I live in the UK and I find Amazon Japan to be the best source (fast delivery and decent prices, site does have an English mode), though I hear CD Japan is also good. Hope this helps!

Still love to spin some good ol' Yama-B era Gal every once in a while. Too bad everything after is the same shit played over and over again.

Hey guys, I'm kinda looking for a band similar to Galneryus but I can't find a really good one. I think both Sho and Yama-b are amazing singers, and I can't find any other band with such vocal quality. Versailles and Unlucky Morpheus is probably the closest I could find, cuz both have amazing vocals. Any suggestions? (english is not my native language so please excuse any mistakes)

Minstrelix. They have the same high pitched vocals, same language (JP), and like Galneryus they do English songs as well. Many songs of them also have the same strong focus on guitarsolo's. Galneryus is better though.

Heavenly Punishment has got to be their best album opener in a very long time.

Favourite song so far: Wherever you are. This and Secret Love... they can really pull off pop songs

I actually really love this release. Been spinning it constantly since it came out. Might be favourite since Reincarnation. Not saying everything in between wasn’t amazing though.

I know people will laugh but I think the Brutal Spiral of Emotions is the best song here. This song is truly something different with its composition, and while U.C. is pretty much just as much so, its still kind of staple Gal power song.

The new album once again proves that Galneryus are incapable of releasing a bad album. Truly amazing music, but not quite as good as Under the Force of Courage IMO.

Some people are saying this album lacks enough solos, but actually I'm glad about this. With this album we haev strong and memorable themes the whole way - and the songs are crafted with more compositional intelligence than before, which of course diverts from solos. I think the new approach is a more listenable album more akin to an orchestral or symphonic poetry style, on repeated listens.

I found myself getting a little put off by some of Syu's solos, where it's just for the sake of solos, so I can see where you're coming from. My initial reaction to the Forc of Courage was meh as well. But I feel the vocal melodies of previous albums were more interesting and had more emotion. God I'm confused right now.

Hm, they indeed cut out all the solo's in Ultimate sacrifice. Such a shame. It lacks Syu and Yukhi. Many other songs are also kinda lacking in their solo sections, including Brutal Spiral of Emotions, the Shadow Within and Wings of Justice. And when Syu plays a solo, it mostly consists of a small segment that is repeated 2 or 4 times or its the main theme (chorus) of the song with a technical variation on it. He did that shit a lot too on Vetelgyus. Makes me tired. All in all still a good album of course. Its Galneryus. I dont find it really progressive, its just standard Galneryus, but what they do is fine. Its good. Its what the fans want, and yes: they deliver. Despite the lacking solo's, I can say this is the first Galneryus album where I enjoyed all songs. 8/9 songs will join my playlist for sure.

Cant check the new album yet, but: how are the last two songs. Ultimate sacrifice is the title track and the longest one on the album. It should be good right?

Yea I listened to Brutal Spiral of Emotions (through Youtube) but it was not really progressive imo. Also agree with MaRtInCeS that it lacks solo's. No single keyboard solo from Yuhki. What the hell.

That was my problem with the album as a whole, nothing really stuck with me (except the keyboard solo somewhere midway thorugh it. But I was programming in the background so let's see what time brings.

I really like the album. Biggest issue is the audio compression. Much prefer if it was released in Hi-Res, as the whole thing has this super-loud profile that is just too much.

There a FLAC rip around 450 megs around there. I plan on buying their entire discography once I'm in Japan :)
