Gary MacDonald is a Canadian rock and powerpop musican/singer/songwriter based in Toronto, Ontario. Gary has been playing guitar and singing since he was 15 years old. First inspired by the music of The Beatles and Elvis Presley he developed a strong love for rock, pop and also traditional country music. Since the age of 18 Gary has been playing with various bands and he has traveled extensively through eastern Canada. After taking a break from musical performance he has recently returned to playing and singing with an emphasis on writing his own original material.

While the list of artists that have influenced him would be far too long to include in this information package, a short list of some of his biggest influences include artists such as: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, George Jones, Walylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Marty Robbins, Roy Orbison, The Who, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Shadows, Blues greats like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf as well as country and bluegrass greats such as Bob Wills, Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubb and virtuoso western swing players like Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant. More modern influences include groups such as The Rheostatics, The Tragically Hip, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Matthew Sweet, Tom Petty, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Dwight Yoakam, Big Country, The Mavericks, and many others too numerous to mention.

Gary really prefers to do his own original music but he has a large repertoire of songs that range from traditional country and bluegrass right up to modern rock and pop songs of the 2010’s. He is a fan of “Authentic” music and enjoys playing songs that are sincere and express honest emotion. His warm voice, strong and clean rhythmic guitar playing and his easy going and humble personality have endeared him to many people over the years. He believes that the best music speaks directly to people’s hearts.
