"Mi Tierra" (My Homeland) was the first single released by Gloria Estefan on her first Spanish album Mi Tierra, it was written by Estefano based on inspirations by Estefan.

Song history

The song was the first song released, giving on it a tribute to Gloria's homeland Cuba which was the principal reason for the making of the album. This song was first released at the United States where the song took Gloria again to the Hot Latin Tracks top position reaching the number-one at the chart, her first number-one to do so since the Spanish version of "Don't Wanna Lose You" in 1989. The song which was also a hit on other markets such as the Dance market, where become on Gloria's first solo Spanish single to ever reach the Top 5 of the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

This song was also Gloria's first number-one at Spain, which leaded the album to become the most successful ever album released at the country for its sales of more than a million. Another big achievement of the song it was that was one of the first Spanish-language songs to reach the Top 40 on some English language countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia.

The remixes for the song were made by Gloria Estefan personal remixer Pablo Flores and by Tommy Musto.
