why is it that I actually can't bring myself to like this album? it isn't even remotely bad, not at all. maybe it's the lack of proper flow between tracks, or that the album feels like it drags out occasionally (I cant sit through Deluxe). I can't put my finger on it. maybe it's because the only Gorillaz album I truly enjoy is Plastic Beach? Demon Days is forgettable to me because they've had better work since then in my opinion, and the Self-Titled's mixing is just god awful, everything is just flat (song writing isn't bad though). I don't judge the G or D-Sides because it's just B-Sides and demos, same as The Fall. maybe because it feels like a collection of singles and not an album? like I said, Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez isn't a bad album by any stretch of the imagination, but there's something that just digs at me while listening to it that makes it hard to listen past Pac-Man. I dunno. Mixing is good and I don't mind colabs (gorillaz has always been a colab band). h.

I feel the same way. It's a strong album that isn't bad by any means, yet I never want to listen to it. I'd argue that it's more creative than Humanz and The Now Now, yet I still enjoy those albums more. And this is coming from a guy who's favorite Gorillaz album is the self-titled. I think, for me, the album is just a tad bit too poppy, and the lack of cohesiveness also doesn't help. The album also just lacks a proper aesthetic; Gorillaz' albums have always had a wide variety of different styles and genres within them, and I've always loved that, but here it just doesn't work as well. The songs don't share a certain palette, they are all different.

I'm so glad I haven't listened to all the singles before it came out. I only listened Desole and Momentary Bliss once and that was it. It's a giant fucking album. I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet, Gorillaz albums tend to hit me on repeated playthroughs. I got to say that this one sounds quite good so far and it's very different and less single/hit oriented than the previous 2 albums and it's a good change. Although I liked The Now Now a lot and enjoyed quite a big chunk of Humanz, some of the songs from those went straight to my playlists because they are very good out of context. This one feels more like a complete album experience, despite how different the creation of this one must have been. While the interludes were quite pointless in Humanz, I think the inclusion of Machine Bitez would work very good in this one to sort of tie it together even better. Maybe it was the plan originally. But I can also see how some people wouldn't be too happy about it, so I guess it's ok.

Pleasantly surprised with this one. A bit of a mixed bag at times but a serious step up over their other post 2010 stuff.

A hell of an album, incredibly cohesive, perhaps as amazing as Humanz. By the way, I wonder if the haters will defame the former as they did with the latter, for all the collaborations.

The thing with Humanz was that the songwriting was crap, and the guests were wasted with those crappy songs, plus the lack of Damon made it feel less like Gorillaz and more like "Albarn producing songs for various artists" Here, every guest works within the Gorillaz sound frame. Damon is in full control of the songs.

Your opinions are valid. Nevertheless, I liked Humanz pretty much, and I believe the whole concept precisely revolved round having lots of guests. The lack of Albarn didn't bother me much, as I've always felt Gorillaz was something more than just him, you know?
