Seems like they're already recording new material. What sound do you all hope they're going for, looking back at the discography?

It was a great gig in Bochum! Emil was vibing and really into playing the drums, you could see . Only thing to complain was the concert duration, 1 hour was not enough!

I like these carry over themes a lot. I will now go listen to the Francis Lai soundtrack to the 1977 movie "Bilitis". Filmmusik.

Yeah, sounds great. But someone commented "this is like if the backing band to Roxy Avalon got told to fuck off for the week", which I can kind of hear.

Only just getting to know them through their back catalog - hard to keep up with the new stuff too. I hope it's good!

Excited to see which direction they're going. Would be great if former member Zak Riles can lay down some musical ideas if they're recording at his studio. Miss his acoustic work.

Ominous, yet very relaxing. I've listened to their music while taking a walk and it felt like an adventure

Similar here, I'm associating Grails to programming when I'm in the office. It just brings me to that mental state.

They remind me of Ulver, despite the obvious contradiction between their styles there is a similiar approach for both I think, like reinventing themselves and experimentation on each release.

Not that I have heard. Amos is very active within his project Holy Sons, if you're into that.

Haha yeah, that was pretty optimistic. Yesterday Emil Amos said on IG that they are "in the process of turning in a new record" and promised more info on the LP "very soon". Hoping it's really close now.

Grails makes my 34 year old ass act like a teenager, claiming it's my favorite band.

I like Grails as post-rock for the same reason I'm picky about prog rock artists. Love when they don't get too silly with tubular bell solos or 8 minute long reverb/ambient intermissons. Grails doesn't get too ambient, and you get blasted by sick riffs and melodies constantly. It's post-rock muddled with blues, folk, stoner metal, etc. Each time it's something you wouldn't expect, but jives perfectly with the previous tune.

Love this band. A couple of their albums also make really good background music for my D&D sessions.

Just WOW! Они не записывали саунды к играм по типу СХ или Аутласта? Получилось бы атмосферно.

Discovered these guys recently with Chalice Hymnal. Incredible album! Got a new fan right here!

hard to see an all-positive shoutbox like this one. new album is indeed something else, and I'm just discovering the band. this is a good feeling.

Only a few listens in, but this is already feeling like their magnum opus. A band who actually get better with each release, perfecting their craft, incorporating new sounds whilst keeping their core sound. A musical unicorn. Fucking New Prague. Band is in a different league to everyone else currently.

Chalice Hymnal: Gorgoeus album but, for me, a bit dull compared to both Black Tar Prophecies and Take Refuge. I do really like it, as I like everything they do (they are on my top 5 bands ever), but... this one hits me as too pristine, too restrained. I love when they fully explore their creativity the way they do in the Black Tar series <3. They manage to produce masterfully composed and powerful songs... i guess i am lacking the "powerful" in this one (not the masterfully tho).

I love the BTP series, but this album and Deep Politics feel more 'complete', which I'm sure is by design. I can't get enough of this new album, it just gets better.

Yep, Deep Politics and this new one are def more polished, and I totally understand why most people consider them their best. Me however.... they are among my least fav albums as a whole (being that I still love them). I guess we are consequent with our taste! Thats part of Grails beauty. They change style a lot from cd to cd! =D

Thank you for amazing new album. You did it! Not the same way as GIAA for example (their last albums weren't good for me). And it's great that you can still create nice music.

I think it's safe to say Chalice Hymnal is their best work yet. What an album! <3

@damnruckus Yeah, these guys were kind of an introduction for me to post-rock, and I enjoyed it so much that trying to get into the revered classics of the genre has been a bit of a struggle.

That would be awesome: a new Black Tar Prophecies EP followed by a new album, followed by a tour with some East coast dates would be heavenly.

We need a new album from these dudes ASAP. [3] A new Black Tar Prophecies volume if possible. I feel that they excel on those as they experiment more <3
