Check out Donald Byrd, he was a master at that same combination of old-school jazz and soul/funk

It's crazy to bump into such an amazing and, apparently, so little known artist. I suddenly found myself obsessed with the album "Visions", what a masterpiece! Brilliant artistry!

This guy grooves, one of the main inspirations for a great player you might've heard of george benson.

I simply do not understand how one man can be so prolific and have so many excellent albums at the same time. Solid and Grandstand are immoderately underlistened to

Agreed. I'm always surprised how even most of the people I encounter who are pretty into Jazz don't even seem to know who Grant Green was. Some people have heard him without knowing it (either directly or by having heard his music sampled by A Tribe Called Quest or Madlib) but he's grossly underappreciated; a phenomenal guitarist in his earlier Jazz/Post-Bop/"Soul Jazz" period as well as his later, harder-edged Funk era. A shame. But at least those of us who do know of him and have heard his stuff are really fond of his music and speak highly of his recordings and try to recommend him to other listeners.

Oh cool, didn't know he had sampled Grant Green. I'm not very familiar with his work
