"In '99, GBV released this: Do The Collapse, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Surgical Focus," a song so catchy, most people don't listen to the lyrics. But they should! Because it's not just a song about wanting to nail your dental hygienist, it's a personal statement about self-improvement. Hey Paul!"

it's actually absurdly good. i've gone hot and cold on it over the years, but i'm coming to think it might be one of their very best

not a big fan of this album as a whole but it's not because it's too slick or anything (love other big studio gbv albums). it got some really great songs sure (teenage fbi, hold on hope, zoo pie) but a chunk of the album seems forced to me when it comes to hooks and sounds. also feels more sterile and less passionate than other gbv albums.

the songs are great, but the recording of the album is junk - even bob knows this, that's why the box set has the remastered demo versions of these songs (surgical focus, teenage fbi, things i will keep). nothing against them moving to a big studio because they made great big studio albums before and after this :( damn that ric ocasek.

GBV is one of my favorite bands and I really like this album too, I don't understand why almost all the fans tend to say it's a poor album... Only great songs on this album, especially "Things I Will Keep" and "Teenage FBI".

I think this album tends to get underrated by GBV fans. It's much more slick and less lo-fi charming than anything else they've released, but it's still full of great songs.
