Being a fan from the first two EPs I was a little underwhelmed by Despite Yourself but while those songs sounded a little flat on record they really tore them up live. Last I heard Dan was still doing Blackcar, who made a pretty damn good but largely ignored album.

EssBen, I agree totally. On their early stuff, I thought Headswim were awesome. Then Despite Yourself came out, they appeared on Top of the Pops (or the Pepsi Chart Show, remember that?), and that was that. Real shame.

Flood and the earlier EP's and Radio 1 Rock show appearances were amazing, but Despite Yourself was just so much filler. Tourniquet and Old Angel Midnight were great songs, god only knows what possessed them to re-record Years On Me. Flood was one of my favourate albums for years. I can't believe it isn't more popular. I think maybe they played the right kind of music in the wrong kind of country - they'd have done well if they'd been in the 'states, who are a bit more Rock then the UK (especially during the 90s).

I bought the 1st album in '94 and thought it was pretty good. Had it been released a year or two earlier i'm sure they would have made it big. The fickle world of UK fashion had moved on by then. The last thing i heard was in the late '90s - i think the record company asked them to be Radiohead. Chuckle...
