Biography

Héctor Murrieta Flores was born in Mexico City. He started his career as a classical guitarist at the "Ollin Yolliztli" conservatory, under the guidance of Antonio López Palacios, and afterwards at the Escuela Nacional de Música, U.N.A.M, with Juan Carlos Laguna. He has also taken classes under some of the most prominent classical guitarists of our time, like Gonzalo Salazar, Ignacio Rodes, David Tanenbaum, David Leisner, Manuel Barrueco, Dale Kavanagh, Pavel Steidl and the L.A. Guitar Quartet.

"De Oriente a Occidente: Musica del Siglo XX", the first album, was the result of many different influences converging at one point at the right time. With sources as varied as the towering Brazilian musician Heitor Villa-Lobos to the intimate revelations of Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, these works for classical guitar represent a glimpse into the century in which music became the highest form of abstraction and a return to art's roots.

"Your interpretation of my music deeply moved me because it transcends what is written on the score. Passiveness before the music is not something your work can be characterized with"

-Alfonso Montes, Venezuelan Composer
