Biography

Tonya Henderson discovered the spiritual, healing force of music at an early age. By the age of 5, she began singing with her mother in the church choir. As the elder Henderson struggled to overcome the barriers and burdens of being a single, African-American mother living in the Deep South during the 1970s, music proved to be the cohesive tool binding mother and daughter. Music would continue to play an important part in Tonya's life. She received a music scholarship to Charleston Southern University in 1991 and toured with the Christian ensemble group, New Vision. She received the opportunity of a life time after winning an open contest to perform with Gladys Knight at the famous Fox theatre in Atlanta.

Currently, Tonya is employed as a music therapist in a psychiatric hospital in Gainesville, Georgia. She continues to spread her musical message through her work and shows in excellent acoustic venues such as eddies Attic, CJ's Landing, Borders Books and Music, and The Crimson Moon.
