Biography
Herman Li (fl. 2000s) Born in Hong Kong, a guitarist in the power metal band DragonForce.
After having played in a number of underground metal/rock bands in London, Herman Li decided to form a band instead of joining one. Li has finally found the right musicians together to take the music he loves to another level in the form of a Power Metal band, DragonForce (previously known as Dragonheart). As well as touring with DragonForce, Li has also given guitar clinics on his own approach to the instrument.
Herman Li is a self-taught guitarist. His work is technical and is often very fast. Li plays with Ibanez guitars. He's left-handed, but he couldn't afford a left-handed guitar, so he plays a right-handed guitar. He also draws influences from "video game" music and mimics sounds from popular retro games in his songs.
Their 2004 album Sonic Firestorm earned Li the "Dimebag Darrell Award For Best Young Shredder" at the 2004 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, which he accepted dragging the other members Sam Totman, Vadim Pruzhanov, ZP Theart and Dave Mackintosh onto the stage alongside.
Li is known for his signature guitar solos, wherein he switches hands, using his right for fretting and his left for "shredding". He also uses a Digitech Whammy Pedal and Wah Pedal To create some of his signature guitar sounds.
