you're right, I exaggerated by my statement. However, I don’t know any other pop band that manages to be different (not just by saying so) in such a consequent manner regarding the discrepancy between pop music elements on the one hand and literally individual lyrics on the other hand.: Searching for the existence of love (“Lover, where do you live?“), searching for explanations for… a rampage? suicide? deviant behaviour in general? (“since last wednesday“), domestic abuse (“leave no traces“), playing God to get the energy needed by causing collateral damages like on “Hiroshima“.

What I really had in mind with my (rather superficial) statement is that I don’t know any other pop band whose lyrics are similarly political (partly breaching taboos only by their song titles) or personal, embedded in such interesting songwriting, whilst creating such catchy and beautiful pop music. I do like some pop artists and I’m sure that I would get to know more interesting pop artists if I concerned myself with it, but I’m put off by what reigns the charts, by what the majority of the people seems to like or, in general, by what is predominant in one’s mind when the word “pop“ appears.
