Biography
Hisland is an unsigned Canadian rock band with a blues influence, formed in Kitchener, Ontario in July 2010. Think New York underground mixed with Southern garage rock (The Strokes, old Kings of Leon, etc), and you've got the distinct sound of Hisland. The band consists of Sal (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jacob Anthony (drums, b/g vocals), Mat Anthony (lead guitar), and Pavel (bass).
Their debut record "Muckshack" (EP) was released in September 2010. The first track "The Devil" has already received some attention, being nominated for "Best Rock Song" at the 2010 Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and receiving radio play through various online streams and reputable stations. The band also played in Austin during SXSW 2011. Most recently, Sal was nominated for "Best Male Vocalist" at the 2011 Los Angeles Music Awards.
When it comes down to the brass tacks, Hisland is among a small percentage of bands that are working toward the reshaping of North American mainstream. They want to inspire music fans to turn the radio off and say "No. I'm not going to listen to that".. at least until it changes.
"Hisland" comes from a private island in The 1000 Islands called "Horseshoe Island", where the band goes in the summertime to hang with friends and jam. Most recently, Hisland recorded their latest EP "Thousand Islands" up there in a cottage bunkhouse. Not bad, eh?
We'll just have to see what's next.
