a lot of women nowadays would really benefit from listening to this album ESPECIALLY Awful and Reasons to Be Beautiful. the theme of girlhood and womanhood being corrupted by consumerism feels truer now than ever.

Growing up is realizing this might be their best record. There’s this mixture of cathartic pain yet also healing. That’s what separates it the most from the previous Hole records. Besides its sound of course. There’s slivers of hope but still this feeling of aching but it’s not a “pissed off at the world” mentality like on Live Through This. Courtney had grown and matured and also went through the process of grief. What I gather from this record is that healing is not linear and has its ebbs and flows. It’s a beautiful record honestly, I think I love it more now as a nearly 30 year old than I ever did as a teen.

What is this outro...? I'm having so powerful sensations listening to the part at the end of "Petals". I feel like I've heard it before, and that feeling is so fucking strong that I can't stop searching and searching who was the mysterious person that either took it from there and sampled it somewhere... Or actually created this melody before this song came out. Facts: it's not Madonna's "Frozen". Also, it's probably not NIN, though at first I felt like it might be. PLEASE, give me some lead. I don't know anything anymore, I just want to know this one thing, cause it's seriously haunting me. What my fucked up brain is trying to tell me?

Never did. Now when I'm reminded of this it's killing me again xD But I tried everything from my library that might have contain a melody like this and I found nothing, so I gave up finally. I'm inclined to the theory that a long time ago, before I even listened to Hole, I heard this outro somewhere and it stuck in my head, giving me this impression that I heard it somewhere else. But tbh, it does not convince me completely :')

Listening to it, I get the same feeling. It's so familiar somehow. You alluded above to how the orchestration and general timbre of the outro is similar to lots of other well known pieces of pop music (in addition to the examples above, it made me think of Bachelorette by Björk, even though melodically they're so different) - even that can be enough to trick our brains into thinking we've heard a piece of music before. But I think your theory is the most likely.

Another good Hole record. The production is clean as a whistle and glossy as hell, but there are hooks all over the place and this is probably the best record they did from a lyrical perspective. I still think Live Through This is their best overall album, but this was a high quality follow-up.

I listen to this more than I listen to Live Through This nowadays... crazy, I used to hate the sleek production on this album. But I realized this has her greatest lyrical content in my opinion (Malibu, Dying, Northern Star, Boys on the Radio). I love this album.

lol what pop song has ever sounded like the stuff on this album? it's still rock, just because it's lighter doesn't make it any less valid as a rock album ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Older and wiser ears can dull the brilliance of many records once deliriously adored, but sixteen years later every single note of this album is still fucking perfect.

"CS is unlistenable LTT is alright POTI is real masterpiece". Yeah.. except that's utter bullshit, and you know it.

Darling, LTT is good, but half the songs on CS are better than anything on it. CS is best of decade material.

Much better than LTT. It may be more generic, but the songs a re perfect song structure has more interedsting song strucutre than LTT. Thank god they "sold out" :D

Sweet pop tunes, all tied to nostalgic memories. One of my all time favourites.
