Biography

ICONIQ (real name Itō Ayumi, 伊藤亜由美, 아유미) is a Japanese R&B and pop singer of Korean descent signed under Rhythm Zone, a sub-label of avex trax. She was born in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, to Korean parents.

After growing up in Japan, she moved to Korea for high-school. She was spotted by a talent scout at an H.O.T concert, and since then started training under Star World agency. In 2002, she debuted as the leader of the girl group 슈가 (Sugar). The group lasted for five years, releasing three albums in Korea and two in Japan.

In 2006, when Sugar went on hiatus (and later disbandment), Ayumi went solo with a Korean version of "Cutie Honey", having written the lyrics herself. Later that year, she released another digital single, a cover of K-pop's 90s hit "Wrongful Meeting".

The following year, Ayumi was dropped by her company in favor of a new contract with SM Entertainment. She then left to Japan once again and began taking acting lessons. In 2008, she debuted as actress with a minor role in the drama "Bimbo Danshi". In the same year, she also went to L.A. to study music and dancing.

In 2009, she had her first main role in the movie "The Promised Land". She also acted in the movie "Waiting for good news", starred one episode of Avex Trax short drama series "Otome" and had a secondary role in the drama "Yottsu no Uso".

On November 2009, she was officially part of Avex Trax' Rhythm Zone label under the name of ICONIQ. Her first Japanese digital single, "I'm lovin' you", featured EXILE's member Atsushi and was released on December.
