Still thinking about how someone said that BTTIGTP is Fantano bait like they weren't grieving in their art and that that was the main reason the album sounds the way it does. People give Fantano too much weight. This album is incredible and I do not care if I'm called pretentious for that. I'm too pretentious for some Migos after all.

I agree that people give melon too much weight. people have been forgetting that art can just be incredible without giving a fuck about critics. fantano liked it because it's something avant garde, and genuinely really beautiful and heartfelt with absolutely insane performances all around. I love it for what it is, and I hope others feel the same way. it's such an incredibly evocative album, dark and uncomfortable at times. it feels anxious and tight, filled with pain, and at the end has some closure, not in the way that everything is okay, but real closure, that things are this way now. not that they've recovered in some way, but are starting to move forward despite hurting. it's filled with anger, confusion, panic, depression, admission, confrontation, and memories. at least that's what i've gotten from it. critics like good art, but that isn't the point of good art.

Exactly. I'm with you on how you feel about it as well as not caring about critics' opinions (though I technically did acknowledge multiple critics' opinions). BTTIGTP is a forward thinking album that's stuck grieving for the past. I don't care what people in general say as long as someone enjoys the music, it does something for them and the musicians get something valuable out of it. Thank you for your comment.

I agree with that. when i'm interested in an album, I avoid critic reviews until i've heard it for myself. he's had some absolutely atrocious takes, and also some opinions that I agree with. generally though, yeah, saying I found it from fantano sounds lame af

I found death grips from a recommendation from a buddy (who heard about them from fantano) and got interested in quadeca when one of my brothers played I didn't mean to haunt for me (which he heard about from fantano).

i heard about death grips from "related artists" in jpegmafia's spotify profile and i found jpegmafia from a friend who wanted to mess with me and told me to listen to veteran (i did not like it on first listen lmao) then i found injury reserve from related artists on jpegmafia's spotify profile again

this is one of my top albums OAT, it's genuinely such a beautiful album which personifies grief itself. this album isn't a grieving album, this album IS grieving. i love how glitchy it is. the fact this album shouldn't work is what makes it work so well, it sounds like nothing else anybody could listen to. a fantastic listen that tells the story of grief and despair.

This is transcendence as music through glitchy abstraction. Every song here is an ingenious statement both in it's own right and as a connecting piece of a greater picture. The first album that I can safely and confidently say breaks all barriers put forth to it, to create a fractured image that forms a glorious understanding through it's nuanced interactions. Masterfully written and produced in every facet imaginable and then some. I love this album more than I can ever express

Idk if y'all can relate to this but when this album first came out I absolutely hated it. I listened to it recently and it didn't sound the same and I was finally enjoying it. This reminds me of Earl Sweatshirt's album Some Rap Songs, the more I listen to it and the more I enjoy it.

They also sample Shellac, The Fall, and Brian Eno; ther's so many examples of incredible sampling choices across the album.

The production is insane on this one and the preformances are even crazier. A beautiful, but terrifying expression of the world we are all living in right now. It's reactionary, dystopian, and painful, but always true. Most songs have no direct meaning, but purely convey an emotion that's powerful. A whole absence of music collided together with other absences to then create a song. Almost like the world we live in today. Best album of 2021 for sure. 98/100
