There are many albums of library music similar to this that have been unknown to the general public for most of their existence. The quality of the music doesn't necessarily mean it's a hoax - there is a lot of quality music that simply never made it to the ears of the majority of the public.

i find it hard to believe this is a long lost gem from 1979, too. it's too on-trend to be coincidence. very good music.

@n0ns3nse What first drew my suspicion was the specificity of the story given in re: the album's genesis. It definitely reads as a piece of creative writing rather than simply a documentation of the past, and it plays on the popular fantasy of someone with no musical experience spontaneously creating a work of genius. Though not impossible, the notion seems more cinematic than realistic. Next, the German/English translations are a little wonky, suggesting that someone out there capable in both languages is having a little fun with the track titles. Additionally, an internet search for Mr. Jurgen Muller reveals only references to this album. Though it's possible he could have been completely underground since his alleged sea-related explorations, that also seems unlikely. Finally, as I noted before, though plenty of artists have been ahead of their times, there are chord progressions here that are not only that, but highly in vogue in the current minimalist electronic landscape.

Herr Müller might be a hoax say teh internets (http://holywarbles.blogspot.com/2011/06/jurgen-muller-science-of-sea-1982.html) -- somewhat believable theory given the general Germanic krauty-ness of the package and some sleuthing at the aforementioned site (sounds a helluva lot like Emeralds last one) -- but it's lovely music either way

whether this was made three decades ago or much more recently, this is one of my favorite things to be released this year.
