Arriving just a few months after Jay-Z’s record-breaking musical accomplishments, here we find Hov bragging about how tough and untouchable he is. He invites those who hate on him and/or wanna rob him to try to come and get him. He worked too hard for what he has to let anyone take it from him. Hov first delivered some of the track’s bars in a freestyle on Tim Westwood’s BBC Radio 1 show in 1999.
Produced by Timbaland, the track samples Bullet’s 1975 song “Contract Man.”
Rolling Stone gave this track favorable reviews, saying it was:
an exhilarating piece of craftsmanship where two separate blaxploitation licks are joined by a valley of babbling brooks, tropical birds and church bells – Jay describes fear and loathing at the top of the hip-hop heap, with phenomenal results.
