Personally, I feel that the scoring for the movie was spot on. Yes, you could hear that most of the music (nearly all) was nothing more than adaptations from the central (musical) theme of the film. (That being "The Gift of Mortality" and "Then You Look At Me.") Taken out of context from the scenes that the pieces were written for and adapted into a compiled soundtrack such as this, it is understandable if someone is unsatisfied with the soundtrack and can find it derivative. However, I absolutely love this movie. It is one of the few that makes me cry at the end every single time I watch it because of the emotion that the film and scoring elicits from me; and the piece "The Gift of Mortality" does so every time as well since it conjures the final scene within my imagination. So it does not take an "ardent Horner fanbois" to appreciate a compilation such as this...it only takes one with an imagination.
