this album is the loving mother i never had, the oxygen i need to breathe, the healthy nutricious meal that sustains me, the good advice that propels me to make the right decision, the spiritual energy that connects me to the universe-

Mental health, social inclusion, abusive relationships, AIDS and much more are the subjects of these songs, they all come with stellar production and catchy hooks, the album still sounds fresh to this day and one of my favorites ever recorded, THANK u Janet for this masterpiece.

100% agree. Got into her in May and music hasn't been the same. I keep hearing a song then remembering another artist do a similar sound proving her influence. She is the blueprint.

To me this is the most creative and relatable album released by any of the Jackson family and the fact it gets overshadowed by The Jackson 5 and Michael's solo material really just proves that women have to work twice as hard in the music industry.

As a long time Janet fan since 1989-90, I wouldn't say that the J5's output overshadow's Janet. I think in the pantheon of the Jackson family's output as a whole, all of Janet's studio albums from Control up until The Velvet Rope/ (or arguably) All For You, are all highly regarded by music fans and music critics. Also "overshadowed" by who's terms? Even Stevie Wonder, at one time, called Rhythm Nation 1814 "one of the best albums [he's] ever heard." And this is coming from a man who recorded widely regarded masterpieces such as Songs in the Key of Life, Talking Book, Innervisions, etc.
