Biography

Out of all the words you can select to connect Jay Wonder to, the main one should be music.

Born Jarrod Lemar White in Livingston, New Jersey on February 27th, 1990, Jay Wonder is far from being just another rapper. Growing up in East Orange, New Jersey, the foundation for Jarrod's musical background was created. Whenever he was with his mother, whether it be during car rides or within in the comfort their own home, he would listen to classic soul and R&B. The times he would visit his father, he was confined to listening to the sounds of smooth jazz. During the moments spent with his cousin, alternative and rock music was released through speakers. With his friends, he would usually listen to hip-hop and rap music. Whenever he was by himself, a combination of everything was played.

Jarrod moved from New Jersey to Orlando, Florida shortly after his 12th birthday. In doing this, meeting new people was mandatory. He would soon become friends with Christian Arriola (FC). As they grew older, 8th grade came along, and for some odd reason, Jarrod and Christian decided they wanted to record an album. Jarrod took on the name J-RoD, while Christian took on the name 4Chun Cookie. Together, they were the Dynamic Duo. Under these rap aliases, their first and only album together, The SymFany, was released. Shortly after this occurred, 4Chun Cookie stopped rapping and began making beats. J-RoD continued rapping, but changed his rap alias to Jay Wonder.

Under the wing of one of his greatest influences, Kanadayte eX (now D dot Spitz), he opened a sub-division of eX's ATF (Aimed and Trained to Fire) squad. This group, ATF FL Division, consisted of Jay Wonder (the leader), FC, Hazardous (now Young Pro), and DoLLa. ATF was soon shut down by the leader himself.

Today, Jay continues to make music and pursue his dreams of becoming a professional recording artist. Jay Wonder is now considered a Track Star, a rap group formed between him and Young Pro. He has created a number of songs, as well as mixtapes. His sound is unique, which is what gives him the edge over most artists his age. He puts forth a lot of time, effort, and thought into every bar, making it mandatory for his fans and listeners to use a certain intellegence whenever his songs are played. Rapping what he feels is another thing that puts him in a category of his own, whether it be his weird lyrics about porn, being a "loser", or his daily struggles of wanting to be accepted in what he views as a hostile world. His feelings open a portal between him and the average person, thus making his music very easy to listen to and connect with. His favorite rappers, in no particular order other than alphabetical, include, but are not limited to, Big Sean, Charles Hamilton, Drake, Eminem, Joe Budden, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Tupac Shakur, and XV. Jay appreciates all types of music. He has a countless amount of other favorite artists, as well as bands, in other genres of music.

Jay's first performance was in April of 2009 at the A.K.A. Lounge in Downtown Orlando. It turned out to be a successful one. He rocked the stage with fellow rapper Yasin. "I would love to do more shows. I just have to come out with more original material first," says the rapper. "If there was one thing I could tell my listeners, it would probably be there's more than meets the eye with me. I'm different. I have a lot to say, but I'm going to remain quiet about it until I get to a point in life where it's almost expected I feel that way by a person that doesn't even know me personally."
