I got to meet Joe in Washington DC in 1982. I bought him a beer at Old Ebbets Grille and he gave me a button from his Night and Day tour. Great guy. He is the Cole Porter of Rock and Roll! Rock on top!

incredibly unique voice and sound, in a good way, even today I haven't heard anything close.

I spent a year one night at River Sound, then I walked all the way to The Carnegie. Hey, I gotta go, it's gettin' late.

I agree with High... and Tweed.... nothing really compares to the cynical lyrics of this period. The longer he goes on I think he starts to get whiny although being great (as he is) there always seems to be a song which breaks through on each album.

Mine, too, highfedster. There's a bite to his composition and songwriting in this period of his career that isn't as present later. He never stops being as talented- it just gets channeled into other forms. I had only heard "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" for years before I had come across this song and it was all I needed to get me into his stuff.

Joe Jackson is the greatest argument I know for not categorizing any musician! This is so different from his other music: swing, classical, jazz, new age...but this was my favorite Joe period.
