Biography

My musical pursuits have in recent years taken me into dreamy, swirly realms of richly harmonic and romantically melodic electric guitar improvisations. Lush washes of sound are punctuated with stabs and eruptions of sonic crystals, the whole melting into a breath-like ebb and flow. Organic ambient atmospheric electronica, if you will.

I was an early adopter of Eno's frippertronics techniques, and first performed and recorded using long loops in 1977 (with Mark A. Hartman). Feedback, decay, and self-accompaniment have been important elements in my music-making from that time.

Earlier yet, while a high school student, I built my first synthesizer from a bunch of kit oscillators, envelope generators, and filters, soldering each resistor and capacitor to its circuit board, and programming the whole thing with patch cords. I became fascinated with sound design and signal processing.

These days, I'm using the guitar to create music that is, if I have succeeded, quiet, organic, and complexly sonorous. I aim for music that evokes in the listener a sense of place, of real or imagined spaces and surroundings. None of the sounds are synthesized; everything is a manipulation of the real-time signal from the guitar pickups.

My music has been well received in cafes and galleries, at art walks, and as accompaniment for yoga classes. I have a general interest in performing in spaces that may not usually have live music, and at times of day when live performance is not expected. If you'd like to propose a collaboration, please contact me.
