I amm in my 30's, I spent a lifetime surrounded by punk, black/death metal, industrial, folk and a bunch of other stuff. Never even tried listening to anything jazz related.....I just heard this for the first time and it was like a light switched in my head. Such powerful, powerful music.

É muito legal, né? Um belo achado! Eu estou ouvindo em ordem cronológica do livro e muitos álbuns eu não conhecia, principalmente esses de jazz, blusa, soul... Está sendo uma experiência interessante e de aprendizado.

starting to appreciate this a lot more. just cause it's less mind-melting than karma or less bombastic than the black saint & the sinner lady doesn't mean it isn't beautiful in its own way!

It is hard to describe the feeling I get when Resolution's intro sax kicks in. Stunningly beautiful.

I just totally fail to find anything enjoyable about this or to see what it has to do with music. What in God's name is going on their head that they would want to make such noises... Quite frankly, I was shocked at what a negative, unpleasant experience it was, listening to this album. I had to take it off long before it reached the end. People actually sit... and... LISTEN... to that crap. maybe, even PAY....PAY!!!! Unbelievable. I wouldn't listen to it again even if you wanted to pay ME! That this noise could give anyone any aesthetic pleasure is beyond my comprehension, truly. Is there any audience for this "free jazz" besides other dudes who play it and maybe their wives who patiently endure it???

By far the most spiritual and emotional album I've ever heard. Coltrane's Psalm is a soul touching performance, a truly gospel to Thee Love Supreme. Took us from heaven to Earth, and from sin to adoration. Pure genius and spiritual man. Also de best quartet band EVER.

Now that all 4 of them are dead, I struggle to listen to this album without crying, especially when it comes to literally every second of Part IV, undeniably one of the most emotive songs ever written. Rest in peace to the greatest quartet the world has ever known.

I don't know much about jazz either, but this album, after "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis, inspired me to listen to more jazz. There's a lot of awesome stuff from this time period. Check out "Ole Coltrane", another awesome album from him.

This is the greatest jazz album of all-time! As a big prog rock fan, this is the proggiest jazz album I've ever heard, with the possible exception of Miles Davis' late-60s work. Coltrane hinted at this level of brilliance with Ole!, but with A Love Supreme, he just took the entire genre to another level. This album influenced countless jazz and rock musicians alike, and pretty much spawned the psychedelic/progressive rock genres. Ask any prog guy from the 60s who their main influence was, and 90% of them will say Coltrane. The crux of progressive rock, will be forever unmatched. I see a little banter down there about the best jazz albums. Well, I'm not the most qualified, but hey, it's an opinion, right? My top five as of this moment: 1. A Love Supreme, John Coltrane 2. Miles in the Sky, Miles Davis 3. Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, Charles Mingus 4. Head Hunters, Herbie Hancock 5. Ole!, John Coltrane

There are so many great Coltrane albums, it's ridiculous. "Blue Train" and "Interstellar Space" are also among my favorites!

I think my favorite is a toss up between ascension and crescent, but giant steps is undoubtably his best.

Yes, it probably is, it's the album that raised expectations for all jazz to come after it, just like Sgt. Peppers did for rock music.

Masterpiece , but you guys forget "The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady" for me is the greatest album and then A Love Supreme can be the second only to Mingus masterpiece. The Avant Garde stroke of genius started with Mingus back in 1963 with the Sinner Lady then the rest came adter:1964 1965... Kind of Blue is just Modal, perfect but I like Avant better. That's my bet.
