There's a problem with the tagging of the album. If I;m not wrong this is 'Edition 2' of Ascension?

The difference between Free and Avant-Garde Jazz? There is definitely a lot of overlap, and some people consider them to be one and the same. I think of Free Jazz as basically the stuff in which the players are free to improvise, entirely free of the constraints of time, chordal structures, being in tune in some cases, tonic key, etc., while Avant-Garde Jazz-- which is the umbrella under which I think Free Jazz would fit, by the way-- could include something like Mingus's Black Saint and the Sinner Lady as well as something like John Zorn's "game piece" recordings, where the improvisations have a pre-determined, agreed-upon structure-- music that isn't necessarily (always) free in its overall structure/lack thereof but that pushes at the boundaries of the music... Andrew Hill's Point of Departure, Eric Dolphy's stuff as a bandleader, etc.

Jazz Odyssey -> Perfect for a Modern Ulysses... :) I Bet this album will be probably the most important of humanity, when people will understand the language of "free jazz"... A Love Supreme for Trane!

You don't listen to this album. Ascension is experienced every once in a while, when you know that it is time.
