John Dear Mowing Club is an alt-folk/'country noir' band/project from The Hague, fronted by singer/songwriter, guitarist and graphic artist, Melle de Boer. The 'Mowing Club' released its eponymous début album in 2008 and may be seen as a continuation of the De Boer-fronted band Smutfish.
Thusfar, John Dear Mowing Club released two full-length albums: John Dear Mowing Club (2008) and Melleville (2010). The latter album came in the form of a little black book of De Boer drawings.
Just like Smutfish, John Dear Mowing Club has been compared to Sparklehorse, Neil Young, Johnny Dowd, The Hague's Hallo Venray and - last but not least - Daniel Johnston, whom Melle de Boer befriended.
John Dear Mowing Club recorded a 7-inch single and toured with Johnston. They also were his backing band on a number of occasions.
