Biography

Visit John McGaha: JKLM Studios on Facebook for information about current projects, sample tracks, upcoming shows, complete discography, and more.

John McGaha is a multi-genre musician based out of Norman, Oklahoma, with over thirty years of musical experience. The McGaha’s are a musical family, descended from Scottish and Irish immigrants. John McGaha was first introduced to music by his grandfather, and began playing fiddle with his father’s bluegrass band at the age of four. Through the years, his musical repertoire has expanded from bluegrass to include drum and bugle corps, marching band, rock, string quartets, and traditional music of the mid-east. His true love though, is Celtic music of all kinds, whether it be Celtic Rock, Celtic Folk, or sessions at a pub.

He’s performed with numerous Oklahoma-based bands, including Blackthorn, Counterfeit Bards, Calliope House, Arabesque, Callen Clark, and Boru’s Ghost. John has performed at the North Texas Irish festival multiple times with Blackthorn and Boru’s Ghost. He has also performed, in one musical incarnation or another at the numerous Renaissance and medieval fairs, outdoor concerts, fundraisers, coffeehouses, libraries, and in multiple Irish pubs during his honeymoon in Ireland.

While John’s primary instrument is the fiddle, in reality he’ll play anything he can get his hands on. Instruments include the hammered dulcimer, bass, percussion, banjo, mandolin, oud, and random household implements. John’s songs, compositions and arrangements reflect these diverse influences.
